This post is the second part of a series to introduce you to our new hires and the growing team. We hope this can give you a better view of what’s going on behind the scenes at Blank.

Today we are introducing you to one of our software engineers, Rodrigo Calvo. He’s been working in the software industry for seven years and has experience developing backend software for one of the biggest banks in Europe.

We are excited to have him on board and to benefit from his years of experience.

Keep reading to learn more about Rodrigo.

What’s your position here at Blank?

I am a software engineer, mainly focused on backend development. Currently, I work on the browser extension.

What’s your background?

I’ve been working in the software industry for seven years. I graduated from Universidad Nacional de La Matanza, and now I’m doing my master’s degree in Software Engineering.

Previously I worked for five years as a team lead for an e-commerce company. After that, I worked as a backend engineer for Santander, which is a big bank.

I’m also working for WildLife, which is a leading mobile game company. At WildLife, I work with mobile advertising systems.

In 2020 I co-founded a crypto project called “Nomads” with a few friends of mine (all of them working for Blank right now). At Nomads, we worked on developing different types of DeFi applications. This experience and connections have led me to my position at Blank today.

When did you first get involved with crypto?

My first contact with crypto was in 2019. I was doing my software engineering thesis and wanted to research blockchain technology.

I, later on, started to work with smart contracts & DeFi in 2020 with “Nomads”. Once I realized all the possibilities with the Ethereum blockchain, I was amazed and wanted to do more work in this space.

What made you excited about crypto in the first place?

When I first learned about crypto and blockchains, I got excited about the technology and its possibility to create an incorruptible decentralized & public system.

Smart contracts are the second thing that makes me so excited about crypto. I was amazed when I learned how they work and everything that you can build with them.

What made you interested in Blank?

There are many dApps out there that I could work on, but Blank is something special. The premise of Blank takes privacy to another level that other dApps currently don’t offer.

I also think that Blank is an opportunity for me to get more involved in crypto and to learn more about its different technologies, while it’s at the same time perfectly aligned with my interests.

Why do you think privacy matters on blockchains?

First of all, I think that privacy is a personal human right.

In a centralized world, privacy can be costly, and there’s a clear relationship between your wealth and your possibilities to pay for privacy. But, with blockchain technologies, you can provide privacy to everyone. It doesn’t matter if you deposit 100 ETH or 0.1 ETH in Blank; you can remain anonymous either way.

Where do you think crypto will be 5 years from now?

I believe that Blockchain technology is a revolution, similar to when we first created email. The crypto market as a whole is expanding to more people every day, but there’s still a lot of people who don’t know about crypto or understand it. Some people also think that this industry will disappear, but I’m a big believer in this technology and think it will stay for a long time.

We still have many challenges to solve, like huge energy consumptions and scaling up TPS (Transactions per second), but I’m optimistic about our ability as a community to overcome that. The upcoming Ethereum 2.0 update makes me think that we’re only in the beginning and that the future is bright.

I also believe we will see blockchain technology getting implemented in other areas outside of finance, like elections, parliaments, etc.

Any parting thoughts?

I really think that Blank has the right components to become a successful application. Hopefully, we will be able to help and reach a lot of people!

About Blank Wallet

Blank is the most private, non-custodial Ethereum browser extension wallet.

Blank allows the user to easily interact with privacy smart contracts on Ethereum to hide the amounts and the origins of cryptocurrency held, in a decentralized, non-custodial, and frictionless manner.

Blank solves the problem of privacy in crypto transactions. Each time you want to make a withdrawal, Blank will create a new wallet address for you with the amount of crypto that you requested. This address originates from the smart contract where everyone’s funds are pooled. All of this is achieved using cryptographic proofs to ensure that the user cannot be linked with the original depositing address.

With crypto transactions increasing, on-chain transaction privacy is being highly discussed to keep you safe from exposing yourself. Blank has developed a system that adds the ultimate protective layer to your crypto transactions while facilitating every function that other wallets offer.

Anyone can easily install Blank and start reaping the privacy benefits in no time at all. Besides the smart contract functionality, Blank wallet offers a higher level of privacy due to Tor integration. Upcoming functionality includes DeFi web3 integrations as well as support for Metamask Snaps Plugins to allow for seamless connectivity and usage.
