Meet our new hire — Ezequiel Russotto, DevOps Engineer.

This post is the fourth part of an introductory series to the most recent members of our growing Blank team. Its purpose is to provide you with a better scope of what’s going on behind the scenes.

Today, we are introducing our DevOps Engineer, Ezequiel Russotto (aka Eze). He’s been working as a developer/engineer for seven years. He has an impressive background working with cyber defense and DevOps implementations for big companies like Ernst & Young and Moody’s.

We are happy to have him on board and to get his help with all our back-end infrastructure. Keep on reading to learn more.

What’s your job position?

I’m a DevOps engineer currently working on Blank’s infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.

How long have you worked as a developer/engineer?

Since I was 19 years old, seven years in total, I started as a python developer and used to code and deploy Linux machines. Then I realized that I don’t like to focus on coding only. I wanted to get more involved in the whole process of setting up servers, network engineering, and different security measurements, which led me to DevOps. I’ve been working on this for the past six years.

Which projects have you worked on before? (crypto/non-crypto)

All my previous jobs were related to the financial industry. I’ve worked as a python developer and sys-admin for the defense ministry in the cyber defense department. After that, I worked for a few different private companies. I was an SRE (Site Reliability Engineer) at Recomsa and DevOps Engineer at EY & Moody’s (through Globant & Parser digital). Lately, I have also worked a lot with machine learning and tools that evaluate risk.

When did you first get involved in crypto?

I first got involved in crypto through an investment I made back in 2017. I bought and hodled some popular coins. In 2019, I began to work on some open-source crypto projects. My first deep dive was into RPC Golang. When I later found out that Ethereum used RPC, I started doing some tests and code a few things for my own interest. I enjoyed the process and then joined a project with other developers working on new solutions with smart contracts and DeFi apps.

What do you like the most about crypto?

There’s a continuous evolution of new technologies and breakthroughs in crypto, which create a unique environment with many challenges. However, I find this motivating and exciting. There are also many brilliant people in this space. Some of the developers with the brightest minds are working on bringing new innovative tech to market. I’m also a big believer in Open-Source, so that’s another thing that draws me to crypto.

What made you interested in Blank?

I first heard about Blank from Kshamenk, who also works here. He talked about what Blank wants to build and all the possibilities. It would bring me to market, which got me interested in the project and got me to apply for a job position. Upon joining the project, I noticed how all of the people involved are really nice and very knowledgeable in their fields. I also like that Blank is not just a privacy-focused wallet. We are currently working on features beyond privacy that will differentiate Blank from other wallets on the market.

Why do you think privacy matters on blockchains?

Since there’s a lot of bright minds involved in crypto/blockchain technology, and unfortunately, some are ill-intent. With a fully public blockchain, they can track your wallets, use front-running bots or trade against you, etc. If we want a future where crypto is better seen and regulated, we will need privacy. We need to find a balance between public and private information on Blockchains, and I think Blank is well-positioned to solve this dilemma.

Do you have any predictions on where crypto will be five years from now?

I think that in 5 years, crypto is still going to be very volatile and growing. We will probably see a growing multi-chain ecosystem. Right now, most people just see ETH/BTC as the major coins, but I think we will see growing popularity in DOT/ADA or other technologies that are being built now that we don’t know about yet.

I also believe that competition is good. It forces this and any industry to create better technologies, features, and products, which allows them to evolve.

Five years ago, I never thought we would have the DeFi landscape that we have today. We will probably see DeFi grow a lot more and integrate into other business areas. I’m optimistic, I think we will have more tools, and everything will be easier to navigate while at the same time being used by more people.

Any parting thoughts?

The whole Blank team is charming. All the people have a lot of experience in their specific role, and everyone works hard.

Blank doesn’t feel like a regular five to nine job. It’s more than that. We are all passionate about what we are building. Even during our time off, we talk about Blank and how we can improve the project. I enjoy working here and am happy to have taken this opportunity!

I think we will surprise users with everything that we have planned to release in the future. 😉
