Meet our new hire — Angelina Marquardt, Project Manager

#10 — This is the tenth post in our “Meet our new hire” series, where we introduce you to the latest additions to our team here at Blank. It’s important for us to keep you updated with what’s going on behind the scenes and let you know who we are.

This week we’re introducing our newest hire, Angelina Marquardt! With a wide range of experience and a well-rounded skill-set, she’ll make an excellent project manager. Angelina will be supporting multiple aspects of our project as we inch closer to the upcoming release and beyond.

What’s your job position?

Currently, I’m a project manager, but I’ve been doing a bit of everything so far. I started with quality assurance but shifted more towards project management. I’ve mostly been working on improving different processes and workflows here at Blank and also contributed to the extension’s design. Once the design is finalized, I can focus more on reviewing code and testing the extension. In general, I’m open to adapting to the needs of the project. We’re in a really fluid space, so that’s sometimes what it takes to succeed.

How long have you worked as a project manager?

I actually got into the tech space as a front-end developer around 2 years ago. During that time, I took up team leading and management. After finding that I enjoyed it much more than development, I decided that I want to move more in this direction. I studied business administration at university, so I think it fits better with my background and personality.

Which projects have you worked on before?

Most of my experience has been in the tech world. As I said before, I’ve worked as a front-end developer. I’ve also done a lot of work with websites, so everything from designing websites to copywriting and search engine optimization. In general, I’ve focused on building up websites and businesses. A lot of my work has been freelance, but I’ve also had my own projects. I have a really varied background, so I’m looking forward to applying it all to Blank!

When did you first get involved in crypto?

During my time at university, I remember having a class that touched on the fundamentals of blockchain, and I’ve been keeping an eye on it since then as it seems really exciting. My practical involvement with crypto started with Blank, as it’s the first cryptocurrency project I’ve worked on. However, I’ve been interested in cryptocurrency for a while now. I’ve mostly been following the recent developments and breakthroughs in the space, investing hasn’t been a primary objective of mine.

What do you like the most about crypto?

First and foremost, the fact that it’s so modern and such a young space. Modern technology is really interesting because so much can happen in a short amount of time. With cryptocurrency, you can definitely see the potential and how it can positively impact people’s lives. Cryptography has existed for a long time, but it’s only been applied to the real world relatively recently, so it’s great to see the implications. I support decentralized systems, so anything that makes people less dependent on centralized systems like banks is a positive for me!

What made you interested in Blank?

One of the developers at Blank is a former business partner of mine. Blank naturally came up in a conversation with him, and the way he talked about the project made an impression on me. He seemed very confident about the project, and it rubbed off on me. Once I got familiar with the technology, I saw that Blank can actually change lives, so I wanted to be a part of something big. I believe in making the market more accessible and protecting people’s right to privacy, so Blank fits perfectly with that.

Why do you think privacy matters on blockchains?

In the end, it comes down to people’s safety and right to privacy. It’s crucial for big companies to keep our information safe, and I think the same should apply to decentralized systems. Unfortunately, new technology brings a lot of opportunities for bad actors like hackers and scammers, so it’s important to limit those opportunities while still staying true to blockchain’s fundamentals. Blockchain can open up many great things, however, people with no tech background might not realize their information is more public than they think.

Do you have any predictions on where crypto will be 5 years from now?

It’s tough to say. If you look back to five years ago, everything was totally different. This space is constantly evolving, and it’s great to see. Blockchain started off with a group of technically-minded enthusiasts and has slowly gained more and more traction within the mainstream. It’s already becoming a big part of popular culture with Elon Musk on Twitter, and so on. I don’t think it’s going away and will be a bigger part of mainstream culture going forward. Governments might be afraid of cryptocurrency, but the possibilities for the future are endless. If you can pay for your groceries in every supermarket with cryptocurrency, it will change the world and the average person’s life. It’s crazy to see how much has changed in the last five years, so I think the next few years will be just as crazy or even crazier.

Parting thoughts

I’m really happy to be working at Blank. The best thing for me is being surrounded by people who are extremely motivated and want the product to succeed. It’s a great working environment. Everyone on the team believes in the project and their enthusiasm is very inspiring. It’s something that I haven’t seen before in previous projects and it makes me excited about the future.
