Building The Future Of Privacy — Iman
#1 — This is the first post in our “Building The Future Of Privacy” series. In this series, we’ll be joined by Blank employees for a deep dive into the future of privacy. For our first post, we’re joined by Iman — our lead developer!
As our lead developer, it’s needless to say that Iman is involved in all aspects of building Blank Wallet. Here’s what he had to say about the development process and the future of privacy:
Why is on-chain privacy important?
We live in a world where privacy infringements are becoming more and more common. It’s easy to see how privacy has been sacrificed in almost all areas of life as technology advances forward. On blockchains, this problem is more obvious due to the transparent nature of the technology. Your financial data is made public for everyone to see and collected by big data hoarders and node providers. The sensitive nature of finance makes this a big issue, so bringing privacy to blockchains is essential for the future of finance.
What makes Blank Wallet different?
The main idea behind Blank Wallet is that privacy shouldn’t be difficult to achieve for the average DeFi user. There are already a few existing on-chain privacy solutions, yet they are often cumbersome and time-consuming. With these privacy solutions, people need to choose between a smooth user experience or privacy. We want to bring privacy to the average user without compromising on convenience and functionality. As a developer, it’s my goal to make it so people don’t even realize they are using a privacy solution. Blank Wallet stands out by blurring the lines between a privacy solution and a top-tier DeFi wallet.
What is the best thing about building Blank Wallet?
We have a great team working on all aspects of the wallet. We’re all passionate about the project and like what we’re doing. One of the most interesting things is that we involve all sides of the project when introducing new features to the wallet — even the marketing team. This is something I haven’t seen when working on previous projects, and I think it helps us make a high-quality product. Having the opportunity to build a wallet from the ground up and help millions of users take back their privacy is also a big plus.
How do you think the privacy space will evolve?
I think the tech world is headed towards a big split, with privacy on one side and the opposite on the other. It’s doubtful that big tech companies will ever support privacy in a meaningful way, yet as time goes on parallel systems will continue to develop. There’s an increasing number of both privacy-focused individuals and users who demand ease of use. In general, this is a great sign for Blank Wallet as we’re doing our best to combine these two categories.
What are you the most excited about?
First and foremost, I’m incredibly excited about getting Blank Wallet out on mainnet. It will feel like a true milestone when we have people using real funds on the Ethereum blockchain. I’m looking forward to getting feedback in our upcoming beta testing period, and of course, I can’t wait until the full mainnet release. It’s an incredibly exciting time and any developer will tell you that seeing users enjoy your hard work is a great feeling.
If we talk about the space in general, then there are many things that I’m excited about. I’m primarily interested in how the decentralized ecosystem continues to expand, and how privacy can be facilitated within this ecosystem. Web 3.0 identities have the potential to completely revolutionize the internet. Imagine logging into popular sites in the same way you connect to DApps currently. It would completely change the game, and the best thing is that Blank Wallet has a big role to play in facilitating private logins.
We’re also seeing how a lot of layer 2 solutions are using ZK-Rollups to prove the state of their blockchains. It’s a great sign for the technology, as it’s leading to a higher intake of users and giving us the chance to see how this technology works. All in all, I think we’re at a crossroads in crypto and I can’t wait to see where we go next.
